VR Club: Learn English Using Virtual Reality
Bringing Innovation to the Classroom: Step Into a New World of English Language Learning
We are proud to announce that Kings Hall College is now one of only a few colleges in Manchester that allows students to improve their English language skills using virtual reality (VR).
Every Thursday, students are invited to attend our very own VR Club: a carefully crafted social activity that allows students to use VR as an immersive tool to enhance their speaking skills. In our weekly VR Club, students are introduced to an Italian worker bee named Bella, who helps them complete language related tasks and missions in virtual reality.
How Did Bella Come to Be(e)?
Attendees of our VR Club will immediately encounter Bella the bee on their VR adventure, but who is Bella, and who created her?
We would like to introduce you to Mery Mirshahnasab, an EFL Teacher at Kings Hall College and a VR enthusiast. Mery has spent the past year developing new methods of learning for English language students, and out of this research and development came Bella, an Italian worker bee in a virtual world that students can explore.
A few words from Mery regarding ‘Bee Reality’:
"Bee Reality is using VR technology to make English language learning more immersive, identity-affirming, and culturally inclusive for learners from diverse backgrounds.
I’m delighted to be part of a college that encourages innovation and supports fresh approaches to language teaching."
Availability
Our VR Club is available to students every Thursday for one hour from 2-3 PM. Students are encouraged to explore as much of the virtual world where Bella the bee resides in the hope of completing as many English language challenges as possible.
